The winter season came to an end with a race weekend at MotorLand in which the team showed positive signs and managed to improve its results.
MotorLand Aragón hosted the final round of the 2026 Spanish Winter Championship on March 14–15. The winter series concluded at the magnificent Aragonese circuit, where GRS showed clear signs of improvement and was able to achieve solid results, although the team’s pace suggested it could have finished even higher.
The EuroCup-4 Spanish Winter Championship had not been an easy campaign for GRS, with difficulties and moments of bad luck preventing the team from showing its full potential in the first two rounds. Once again, Pablo Riccobono represented the team in this final event. The French-Spanish driver aimed, together with the team, to improve his momentum ahead of the start of the Formula 4 Spanish Championship.
Friday featured a Collective Test session and two Free Practice sessions. It was a very positive day for the team, with Riccobono showing competitive pace and strong feelings heading into the weekend.
Saturday morning disrupted the team’s plans, as unlike the Friday sessions, qualifying took place on a wet track and rain tyres had to be used. Pablo qualified in 23rd position.
Due to several grid penalties applied to other drivers, Riccobono ultimately started Race 1 from 20th place. On the opening lap, contact with another driver forced him to pit to replace his front wing. Once he rejoined the race, the appearance of the Safety Car allowed him to quickly catch up to the back of the pack. From there, he began a recovery drive from the rear of the field, gaining a significant number of positions to reach P17 at the chequered flag. A track limits penalty initially dropped him to 21st, but further penalties for other competitors promoted him back to 17th place, his best result of the season up to that point.
In the Sprint Race, Riccobono spent the entire race battling in the midfield. The French-Spanish driver once again encountered track limits issues, but so did several of his rivals, allowing our driver to return to the Top 20 with a P19 finish.
Sunday began with the second qualifying session. Once again, track limits proved problematic for much of the grid, and Pablo was among those affected. During the 20-minute session, our driver committed four such infringements, resulting in all his lap times being deleted. As other drivers were in similar situations, Riccobono did not start from last place, but instead from P26.
In Race 2, Riccobono made a great start, gaining five positions on the opening lap. An incident later caused him to lose some ground, but following a Safety Car period he was able to rejoin the large group fighting for the Top 15. A second restart allowed him to gain several more positions, reaching 15th place on track, which ultimately became P12 after penalties were applied. With that result, Pablo closed the season with his best race finish, so close to scoring his first points with the team.
This brings to an end both the weekend and the Spanish Winter Championship season. It was a very positive weekend, in which Riccobono’s pace improved in both qualifying and race conditions. The French-Spanish driver did not have an easy winter campaign, so the sensations and results from this final round represent an important boost in motivation for both Pablo and the entire team, which has worked hard to provide the best conditions for the driver to develop his pace.
With the Spanish Winter Championship now concluded, it is time to focus on preparation for the start of the main Formula 4 Spanish Championship season. The team is ready to take on the challenge and arrive at the championship in the best possible shape. The season will begin on April 11–12 at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia.
