The 2025 season kicks off in Jerez for GRS

The 2025 season got underway for GRS Team with the EuroCup-3 Spanish Winter Championship season opener, a useful weekend for the team to learn and start progressing ahead of the rest of the year.

Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto hosted the first round of EuroCup-3 Spanish Winter Championship on the weekend of February 8-9. This Winter Championship, held for the first time in 2025, is the starting point for GRS Team’s 2025 racing season.

The team participated in the weekend with Cristian Cantú. ‘Conejo’ completed in Jerez his EuroCup-3 debut, gaining his first race experience on the car. It was also his first race weekend the team. The main goals were therefore to learn as much as possible alongside the driver and to gain experience.

Friday was dedicated for testing. Two sessions took place. The team used that time to wrap up the car set up while Cantú had a productive day, completing more than sixty laps to face the weekend completely prepared.

Saturday began with the first Qualifying session, where the Mexican driver didn’t have the best of lucks. Due to a small incident, which caused a red flag, ‘Conejo’ lost his best lap times and finished in P23.

Cantú would start both of Saturday’s races from 23rd position. His race pace was solid, and Cristian completed two trouble-free races, making up spots to end them both in 19th position.

The second qualifying session, held on Sunday morning, was the highlight of the weekend. Cantú set an impressive lap time, which put him in 15th place on the grid for Race 2.

On the final race, the Mexican faced a difficult start. Later, while fighting to get back into the fight, he was sent into a spin after being hit by a rival. The incident ruined his chances. Cantú, however, managed to recover and saw the chequered flag in P18.

It was not an easy start to the season for the time. It is time to keep working to improve our performance ahead of the start of the main championship. However, the efforts made by the entire team staff were huge, and we are confident that the improvement will come with more work and experience. EuroCup-3 Spanish Winter Championship will return in two weeks. Autodromo Internacional do Algarve will host the second round in February 22-23.
