The EuroCup-4 Spanish Winter Championship season came to its end at Circuito de Navarra in a weekend that meant a step forward for GRS Team on its preparation for the 2025 Formula 4 campaign.
On March 8-9, the third and final round of EuroCup-4 Spanish Winter Championship was held. The conclusion of the brand new pre-season championship of Formula 4 Spanish Championship was also the first time F4 raced at the renovated circuit, which has a new layout since last year.
It was also GRS Team’s first participation in EuroCup-4. After being absent from the first two meetings, the team was present in this one, which meant that it also was GRS’ first Formula 4 race weekend in 2025. Aleksandar Bogunovič was the driver taking part in the event with GRS. The Slovenian youngster made his debut in single seaters recently and had the chance to gain more experience in Formula 4.
Two test sessions took place over Friday. Despite the tricky weather conditions, which would stay for the whole weekend, it was a productive day as Bogunovič completed about 70 laps.
Saturday action began with the first qualifying session. Changing conditions in the circuit and track limits were a challenge for the entire field. Bogunovič fought hard in those conditions and secured 26th position on the grid for the two races that would take place later that day.
Both races were held under heavy rain and string winds. On the first one, the Slovenian driver had some mishaps that cost him positions. Despite that, he managed to survive the chaos and finish in P25 Sprint Race, on the other hand, was a better one. Bogunovič gained multiple positions on track, took advantage of the mistakes made by his rivals. This great racecraft helped him to see the chequered flag in 21st position.
QP2 was Sunday’s opening session. Despite the skies being clearer than the previous day, the track was still damp. On these uncertain circumstances, the team did not make the optimal choice regarding tyre strategy, and Aleksandar had to settle for 30th place.
Due to the grid penalties applied to other drivers, Bogunovič ended up starting Race 2 from P27. It was, once again, a race with plenty of incidents. The Slovenian driver, however, managed to survive the chaos and fought to get into the Top 20, which was achieved as he finished the race in 20th position.
Both the team and the driver faced the weekend with short preparation time. Their performance was excellent given the difficult conditions. For GRS Team, it was positive to be on the grid of EuroCup-4 Spanish Winter Championship as it will help the team to face the start of Formula 4 Spanish Championship -in MotorLand Aragón on March 29-30- more ready.
