Formula 4 Spanish Championship hosts its season finale in Barcelona

The 2025 Spanish Formula 4 season came to an end in Barcelona, where GRS completed a challenging weekend but one that still offered positive signs to close a year of significant growth, in which the team overcame multiple difficulties.

The seventh and final round of the Spanish Formula 4 championship took place on November 15–16 at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. GRS wrapped up its seventh full season in the category with an event that showed clear potential to secure the best results of the year although, ultimately, these could not be fully materialised.

The team fielded two drivers for the finale: Aleksandar Bogunovic concluded his rookie season in single-seaters, having contested the entire F4 campaign with GRS. Alongside him was Pablo Riccobono Bello, who made his debut in Spanish F4 after competing in the French championship throughout the year.

The event began with three days of testing, giving the drivers the chance to learn the circuit and adapt to the conditions. The preparation was particularly valuable for Riccobono Bello, who had not driven the Tatuus T-421 used in Spanish F4, before the start of the weekend. The team used the test days to refine the car set-up and optimise performance.

Saturday proved to be one of the most unusual days in recent memory for the championship. The action began with a 30-minute free practice session, during which Bogunovic finished 26th and Riccobono Bello 34th. When it was time to qualify, an issue with the track limits detection system forced the cancellation of the session.

The grid for Race 1 was therefore set based on the results of free practice, while the starting order for Race 2 would be determined by the fastest laps from the first race. As a result, more than half the field pitted during Race 1 to fit fresh tyres and attempt to set the best possible lap. Effectively, the race became a qualifying session for many. Riccobono Bello was among the drivers who stayed out on track, allowing him to complete his debut with a positive P16 finish, although his fastest lap was 32nd. Bogunovic, meanwhile, did pit, finishing the race in 24th and setting the 26th fastest lap.

Sunday began with the second qualifying session, which sets the grid for Race 3. Bogunovic delivered his best result of the season with an excellent P13, while Riccobono Bello secured a solid 27th.

Race 2, however, complicated the Slovenian driver’s weekend, as he was involved in an incident during the opening laps. Unfortunately, the stewards deemed Aleksandar responsible and imposed a five-place grid penalty for Race 3, dropping him from P13 to P18. Riccobono Bello, for his part, finished 26th after a strong performance, demonstrating consistent pace and the ability to fight in the lower-midfield group.

Race 3 was relatively calm for both drivers, who maintained steady pace and positions. Bogunovic finished 14th -equalling his best race finish this season after gaining multiple spots-, with Riccobono Bello crossing the line in 24th.

And so, the 2025 Spanish Formula 4 season comes to a close. It was a weekend with many positives, particularly Aleksandar’s qualifying performance and Pablo’s progression and adaptation. Unfortunately, the results do not fully reflect the strong work carried out by the team, which already has its sights set on 2026.

Now it is time to keep working, focus on the post-season testing programme, and aim for stronger results next year. 2025 has been an especially tough season, but once again, GRS has shown its ability to overcome every challenge, thanks above all to the incredible effort of every member of the team.

See you in 2026!
